198 days to go!

With just 198 days until the Olympics begin and just 231 days until the opening of the Paralympic Games in London, Mia and Taylor Larkin, our Bronze Sports Ambassadors, have a few things to  say.

The role of Bronze Ambassadors is to be excellent role models of the Olympic and Paralympic values, which are: respect, excellence friendship, courage, determination, inspiration and equality. Over the next few  months they will help us to prepare for the beginning of the 2012 Games, will lead assemblies and will arrange competitions between pupils.

Keep reading to hear from Mia and Taylor. We are very proud of them!

Our aim as Bronze Sports Ambassadors for Portway Junior School is to try to encourage other pupils to take part in different sports.

We both participate in and enjoy a range of different sports such as tag rugby, tennis, indoor and outdoor athletics and basketball.

We represent the school competing in sports competitions, we organised and held a 2012 Olympic assembly and we are currently planning a 'New Age Kurling competition within our school. In the summer term we will be even busier, supporting other children and teachers in an exciting 11 week countdown to London 2012!

The work we will all do in the summer term will mean that everyone at Portway is as well prepared for the Olympics and Paralympics as they can be! We will have a very good understanding of the values held by both groups, the healthy lifestyles that are necessary to be an Olympian or Paralympian and the many different nations that will also be competing. We will all have participated in some new sports as well, such as handball, blind football and seated volleyball.

Keep an eye on our website to see our progress!

Mia and Taylor Larkin.
