About Portway Junior School
Our mission statement “Learning Together, Achieving Forever” reflects our understanding and beliefs. We aim to ensure that the children at our school are provided with high quality learning experiences based on a broad and balanced curriculum. It promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school. This leads to a consistently high level of pupil achievement, preparing pupils for the challenges, opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
Portway Junior School is a busy school and is characterised by the strong partnerships that exist between the pupils, staff, parents and governors. There are currently 361 pupils on roll at the school who enjoy the friendly and happy atmosphere, grow to their full potential and become responsible and caring members of the community.
We recognise that through the hard work and commitment of all those in school we have been able to build and maintain our high standards. We are fortunate to have staff that are talented, extremely hard working and who are dedicated to ensuring that the pupils at our school achieve their potential and are inspired to become lifelong learners.
Portway pupils are encouraged to take on responsibility from an early age and in many different areas of school life. Pupils from all years are elected to the School Council and the Eco Council, and through these groups have a significant impact on, not only the life of the school, but also in raising money for local, national and international charities and events.
Pupils also forge links with many other associations in Andover and participate fully in activities with Stannah Stairlifts Ltd, the Andover Food Fayre, Andover Football club and Harrow Way school, to name just a few.
Most recently the pupils and staff are forging links with Portway Primary School in Plaistow, London and are looking forward to participating in some exciting projects celebrating the similarities and differences between the two schools.
