History
History continues to be a popular subject and can be linked into many other areas of the curriculum, particularly English, ICT and Drama. Excellent display work indicates enthusiasm and a wide range of activities. All year groups are given the opportunity for a more hands on approach.....theme days are particularly popular and include dressing up and food sampling.
An Egyptian Day for Year 3 enables children to dress up, eat Egyptian food and make Egyptian artefacts such as pots and jewellery. Year 4 go on a residential visit to Hooke Court to experience characteristics of Victorian Life and Year 5 dress as Tudors or Greeks and learn about these periods of time through activities such as dance and food tasting. Year 6 have an opportunity to be part of an evacuation procedure similar to that experienced by children during World War II.
Evidence suggests that History lends itself to different forms of writing and encompasses many aspects of the school's Big Writing programme. We are proud of the opportunities we offer our pupils in this area and enjoy seeing their passion and enthusiasm for these topics develop during their time with us.
