ICT

ICT is an important part of teaching and learning at Portway and the school is committed to delivering a rich ICT curriculum as well as providing opportunities for the integration of ICT into all subjects.

The school has a large ICT suite with an interactive white board and a computer for every child in the class. The school has also recently introduced the Portway Pod (P-Pod) which provides further opportunities for children to use ICT to support learning.

Over recent years the school has invested heavily in effective hardware so that every class room has an interactive white board and remote keyboard and group rooms have computers for SEN provision. The school has excellent audio and video equipment which the children use as well as roamers and digital microscopes, all of which enrich learning.

As well as effective hardware, the school has installed a range of software packages such as Espresso (a massive multimedia resource) and Superclubsplus (a safe web and email site) and a powerful school server ensures that excellent resources are shared school wide.

At Portway we believe that the ICT curriculum should respond to a rapidly changing world where technology does not stand still. As our curriculum develops to reflect this, we will be developing a learning platform where children access a virtual learning environment either in school or at home.

It is our intention to equip children with the ICT skills that promotes and supports their learning but enables them to adapt to a rapidly changing world in a confident and safe way.
