Katie's Back At School

We were very happy to welcome Katie Piper back to our school to receive a cheque for the amount of money we have raised for her Foundation over the last few months.

You will know that we held a Silly Sock Friday and a Spell-A-Thon to raise money to help other people that have suffered burns and other facial disfigurements.

Today we were able to present Katie with a cheque for the amount of £2091.42, which brings our total fundraising for the Foundation to £2261.69 - an amazing total!

Katie talked with us today about how the money will be used and how the Foundation will be able to help others with burns. She told us a bit about the happy memories she has of being a pupil here and how her mum still has her Portway sweatshirt at home!

Katie also talked with us a little about how her life is so different now. She spent yesterday in London at an awards ceremony where she was awarded the Sainsbury's Woman of the Year 'You Can' Award! It is a great privilege for us to have such an inspiring ex-pupil!

Our huge cheque was presented by Tayla (Acting Chair) and Jake (Treasurer) - who worked hard, alongside other members of the council to organise and run the two events this year. They also presented Katie with her very own Pride of Portway Award - the first of its kind given to a previous pupil - for being such a brave and inspiring role model to us here.

Representatives from the Andover Advertiser and Andover Sound were also here this morning to mark the event.

We were very grateful to Katie for the time she was able to spend with us today and wish her well with her new documentary, treatment and the continuing good work of the Katie Piper Foundation.
