Mayor Visits School
This week we were delighted to have a visit from the Mayor of Test Valley, Gordon Howard from Rotary and Cllr Jan Lovell (who is also a governor at the school.) They came to talk about the 'Thanks for Life' project. The project involving the clubs and members of Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland (RIBI), to highlight the humanitarian work of Rotarians with a number one aim of helping to eradicate polio throughout the world.
Last October every child plant a crocus bulb on a bank in the school field and when they bloom they will be bright purple - the 'purple' crocus represents the dye colour dabbed on children's little 'pinkie' finger to indicate they have been immunised against polio in the few remaining parts of the globe since Rotary International commenced its campaign in 1985.Mr
Howard gave a presentation and video before the Mayor spoke about his experience of getting polio as a chills. It was an interesting and worthwhile visit, which really help us to think about this dreadful disease but also the major progress that has been made towards eradicating it.
The Mayor also presented the school with a framed certificate to mark our involvement in the project. In the office we have a collection tin if anyone would like to donate to this very worthwhile cause.
