Puffin comes to Portway!
As you will know, 2011-2012 is our Year of Reading at Portway. We are always on the lookout for ways in which to make this exciting, fun and easily accessible for our children. Our Golden Ticket reward scheme is working brilliantly and many many children are reading even more than usual for a chance to be in the weekly golden draw!
We know that books are expensive so we are excited to be able to tell you that we have joined the Puffin Book Club – a magazine based ‘bookshop’ where all the latest titles and exciting authors can be purchased at half the price!
Puffin comes highly recommended and has been established for over 40 years, providing children around the country with years of reading pleasure. The full colour magazine is jam packed with fabulous books to buy, as well as brilliant competitions, activities and facts, encouraging children of all ages to develop a love of reading. The magazine will come home 5 times throughout the school year and orders can be easily placed by following these steps:
- Browse through the magazine and online
- Complete the order form on page 31 of the magazine & send it back to school by Wednesday 19thOctober
- Wait for your books to be sent home.
There are just three very important things to remember.
- Send payment by cheque or by completing credit card details. Do not send cash!
- Make sure your child’s name and class are clearly labelled on the order form. (There are boxes for this)
- Don’t miss the final date for orders at the school office!

There is a HUGE variety of books to choose from and include authors our children especially enjoy, such as Jacqueline Wilson, Roald Dahl, David Almond, Morris Gleitzman, Caroline Lawrence, Ali Sparkes and Michael Morpurgo.
Readers of all ages are catered for through the magazine. Younger readers will enjoy Julia Donaldson, Peppa Pig and Elmer, whilst more mature readers have the choice of books teaching languages, history and science themed non-fiction and suspense-filled thrillers! You may even find something for yourself – as books such as Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food, adult novels and Learn to Play Guitar books are all for sale!
Purchasing books through Puffin not only gives you the chance to buy books at half the price, but also enables us, as a school, to earn commission. This means that for every purchase you make, we are able to use our commission to improve the choice of books we have available in school.
We hope that you will enjoy browsing the Puffin magazine and their website and we hope that you and your children will find many hours of pleasure in the books that you buy.
