Rugby Runner's Up
On the 28th April, Portway Junior School took part in the sparkling tag rugby festival held at Andover rugby club. We entered a squad of 12, all in year 5 or 6. When we got there we practised a bit before doing team tactics and we agreed that me, Kiera, Josh and Joe were to be straight runners, to get past the other teams defences. We played 6 matches against tough teams like Rookwood and St John the Baptist. We won all 6 of them!
So we were through to the semi final of the Cup, where we played against Hurstbourne Tarrant which came down to a golden try. It was extremely close but we managed to get the try so we won 3-2. We had got through to the final, where we played Whitchurch! It was close but we lost 4-3. We came 2nd. At the awards presentation we each had a silver medal. The adults supporting us were very proud of the way we played rugby but also because we played with excellent sportsmanship. It was a great day enjoyed by all.
