Year 6 / Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

Year 6 is a very busy and exciting year. We try to pack in a lot of activities, as well as preparing children for SATs and for their transition to secondary school.

Our residential trip to Calshot is a highlight; for many children it is the first time away from home on their own! The week is great for developing confidence and self-esteem, and is a great cross-curricular learning opportunity, linked to our rivers topic.

In order to prepare children for Year 7, we constantly focus on independence and accountability. For example, we believe that children are responsible for ensuring they have the correct equipment for each lesson; this includes having a full PE kit. Use of homework diaries as a tool for time management and teacher-parent communication forms a vital part of this independence.

In the summer, all students are given the option to participate in the end of year production – this is always a very well-attended event and the children love to demonstrate their performing skills!

As a finale of their primary school years, in partnership with the Aim Higher project, all Year 6 pupils attend a graduation ceremony at The Lights in Andover, where they are presented with a certificate by the Mayor of Andover and their achievements during primary school are recognized.
