Spring Sport Update

Girls’ Football Report

Last week we had a group of girls representing the school at a friendly tournament at Anton School. It was a really pleasant afternoon with everyone enjoying themselves. The team did very well indeed in the group stage and won 2 and drew 1.  This meant they progressed to the semi-finals but narrowly lost to the eventual winners of the tournament, Balksbury. All the squad should be very proud of what they achieved and how they played. Once again we have to thank Mr Staff and Mr Keeble for looking after the team and to Mrs Salmon from Harrow Way School for organising the event.

Squad: Amelia Partyka, Megan Nikolic, Lauren-Leigh Campbell, Sophie Hammett, Izzy Taylor, Hannah-Leigh Salter, Melissa Campbell, Daisy Barr

Rugby Report

Last Friday had some pupils representing the school at a rugby tournament at Andover Rugby Club. One team was mixed years 5 and 6 and the other was a year 3 and 4 team. The 5&6 team enjoyed the event and only lost 1 match in their group and ended up in 3rd place. They qualified for the plate competition but lost in the quarter-finals but only by 1 try. The Portway player of the tournament was Harry Marchment-Nelson. The Year 3&4 team also had a very good tournament and managed to win all of their group matches. They went through to the cup competition and won the quarter-finals in a close game. They went through to the semi-finals and just lost so missed out on the final. The Portway players of the tournament for year 3/4 were George Chubinidze and Matthew Cooke.

Many thanks to Mr Hession and Miss Marchment for taking the teams to the event. We would also like to thank everyone who gave up their time to organise the day but especially Mrs Salmon of Harrow Way and to Andover Rugby Club for all of their support.

Football – Area Tournament - Portway are runners-up!

It was a great afternoon at the annual Andover Primary Football Cup last Thursday. Portway entered 3 teams and they all showed resilience, sportsmanship and enjoyed themselves during the competition. The C team found the group stage hard but managed to get to the quarter-final of the plate competition and lost to an Anton team, but only on a golden goal after drawing the game. The B team won all their group games and went through to the quarter final of the cup against Portway A and narrowly lost. The A team found their group trickier and won 1 but drew 2 games. After getting through to the semi-final they won that game against Roman Way. They lost in the final to Balksbury but should be very proud of coming runners-up. Many thanks to Mr Keeble, Mr Staff, Mr Clasper and Mr Goulding for organising and running the teams.

Our teams came 3rd, 8th & 9th on the day but it was also announced that Portway had won the 2015-16 Andover & District Netball League! They had a 100% record in the league and we are very proud of them all! This is the first time we have won the league in many years and is a great achievement by all involved. Rugby Friendly

Last week some of our rugby players took part in friendly matches against Anton Junior School to help them train for the upcoming tag rugby tournament. Each team played three matches and showed great skill, tactical thinking and teamwork. Our Y3/4 team won one game, drew one and lost one and our Y5/6 won one and lost two. It was a fantastic afternoon and both Portway and Anton pupils demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship. We were very proud! Thank you to those parents who came to support.
