Christmas in school

18/12/2020

Despite this being the strangest end to an autumn term we've ever had, the staff and pupils at Portway Junior have still managed to make it as festive as possible! There are some links here to some of the things we have been up to and have enjoyed.

Portway Junior School Carol Service - those of you who have been with us a while will know that our morning 'Carols by Candlelight' services are usually packed out. We've been unable to enjoy that together this year but instead have put together a virtual carol service which we have shared today as a school. Please click the link the picture below to see our very different and very lovely Carol Service.

Carols for Care Homes - Glee Club would usually have been out and about in our local community over the last few weeks, sharing carols and enjoying a natter with our more elderly residents. Unfortunately the restrictions meant that we weren't able to do this. Instead 5HW cracked on with a Carols for Care Homes project and put hours in to rehearse and present a virtual concert of well loved Christmas songs to those residents at the Harrier Grange Care Home, Rothsay Grange and Charles Dalton Court. If you click the picture below, you can see  their performance.

Y4 Ukulele Concert - we were unable to invite parents in for our ukulele concert so the Year 4 team made a video. This can be viewed by clicking the picture below and shows the amazing progress our pupils have made in learning the ukulele this term!

Thanks to our marvellous PTA, we have all also enjoyed a live and online pantomime - Cinderella - and have been kept busy with a Christmas bauble  competition (photos below) and ornaments each to decorate and bring home.

Photos of our Christmas Bauble Competition have been added below. Congratulations to EVERYONE who took part! There are some amazingly creative baubles that any Christmas tree will be proud to wear at this time of the year!

It might have been a strange autumn term but it's certainly been interesting and we are proud of all our pupils and our brilliant staff team for everything they have done this term. We wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! Take care, stay safe and we'll see you in 2021!
