Celebrating success through our house points system

Welcome to our house points webpage! At Portway Junior School, we believe in recognising and celebrating the fantastic achievements and positive behaviours our children demonstrate every day. 

What are house points?

House points are our way of acknowledging when children go above and beyond, showing the values and behaviours that make our school community thrive. Every child has the opportunity to earn house points throughout their time with us.

How can children earn house points?

Our children can earn house points in many different ways: 

Living our PRIDE values:

• Positivity - maintaining an optimistic and enthusiastic approach
• Resilience - persevering when things get challenging
• Integrity - doing the right thing, even when no one is watching
• Dedication - showing commitment to their learning and responsibilities
• Encouragement - supporting and uplifting their peers

Following our school code:

Children earn house points when they demonstrate being: 

• Ready - prepared for learning and new challenges
• Respectful - showing consideration for others and our school environment
• Safe - making sensible choices that keep themselves and others safe

Demonstrating leadership and teamwork: 

We recognise children who show excellent collaborative skills, take initiative and support their teammates in achieving shared goals.

Working hard:

Consistent effort, determination and a positive attitude towards learning are always celebrated with house points.

Sportsmanship and physical activity: 

Whether in PE lessons, extra-curricular activities or representing school in competitions, children can earn house points for showing fair play, team spirit and sporting excellence.

Forest School and educational visits: 

House points extend beyond the classroom - children can earn them during our forest school sessions and when out on educational trips, recognising positive behaviour and engagement in all learning environments. 

What happens to the points?

House points are collected throughout each term, with all children contributing to their total. At the end of each term, the winning house team will be rewarded with: 

• A delicious ice bun treat
• A dress down day to celebrate their success

Every house point counts and every child plays an important part in their house's journey to success. We're proud of all of our children and the positive contributions they make to our school community every single day!
