Religious Education

At Portway Junior School, we are proud of our vibrant and ever-evolving culture of diversity. Our approach to Religious Education (RE) is at the heart of this, nurturing each child's spiritual, moral and cultural development and preparing them for a world full of opportunities.

RE at Portway is more than a subject - it's a journey that encourages our pupils to reflect, respect and celebrate the rich tapestry of beliefs within our community and beyond. Through exploring Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam, children learn about key beliefs and values - considering how these might connect with their own lives. We encourage thoughtful comparison and reflection, helping pupils to appreciate similarities and differences across faiths.

We believe that real-life experiences are key to building understanding and empath. That's why our curriculum includes visits to places of worship and opportunities to engage with people from a variety of faith backgrounds. These experiences help children to become well-rounded, open-minded individuals who value and accept everyone.

Celebrating diversity is woven into the fabric of our school life. From themed days and assemblies to creative projects and discussions, we encourage every pupil to take pride in their heritage and to learn from the world around them. Our aim is to help children grow into confident, compassionate members of our community.

Please note: In line with government guidance, parents have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of religious education if they wish. Please speak to Mr Anderson should you wish to find out more information.
