Vision and Values

Vision and Values

Our vision is to nurture ambitious, confident, caring and respectful young people who take an active role in their communities and who believe they have the voice and a responsibility to shape their world.

We strive to encourage our pupils to be:

  • Innovative - to  develop new skills and to have the confidence to create and take new opportunities and to think creatively with depth.
  • Curious - to take an interest in the world around them, ask questions, listen to others’ views and live comfortably knowing that we are all different.
  • Excellence - to work hard to be the best they can be in all aspects of their lives, to recognise that mistakes are opportunities to learn and that to struggle is to become stronger and to develop self-confidence.
  • Respect - to show patience and kindness; to recognise that we are all unique and to take care of ourselves and our place in the world.

Our school rules:

The Portway Code is:

  • Ready
  • Respectful
  • Safe

These principles are shared between  staff and pupils and encourage all in the school community to demonstrate behaviour that is ‘ready, respectful and safe’ to all others.

Our learning behaviours:

We encourage Portway pupils to develop learning behaviours to help them to be successful in their learning, these are explained in more detail below. Positive praise, certificates and stickers are used to recognise when pupils have shown these learning behaviours.
